Turmeric has come a LONG way in the past couple of years from being used in dishes to being a consistent beauty staple in treating a multitude of things from hair problems to skin problems. The active compound in turmeric is called curcum, and is a yellow pigment that is packed full of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. When applied to the skin, this powerful powder fights bacteria to eliminate and prevent acne, breakouts, and blackheads, all while reducing the appearance of acne scars, dark spots, and stains. These turmeric face masks serve to cure a multitude of problems including acne, but focus more on eradicating stubborn acne scars and dark spots.

Turmeric Face Masks

#1. Turmeric & Lemon Face Mask

  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp freshly squeeze lemon juice

Mix both ingredients together and stir until well combined. Apply to a clean face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Why it Works: Lemons have powerful astringent properties and will shrink pores, all while naturally bleaching acne scars and dark spots. Turmeric works to prevent excess oil and breakouts.

#2. Turmeric & Aloe Vera Face Mask

  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel (pure)
  • Water

Mix turmeric with aloe vera gel and add a little bit of water until the mask forms a smooth paste. Apply to a clean face and neck and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse off and pat dry.

Why it Works: Aloe vera has powerful soothing properties, therefore reducing the appearance of scars and dark spots.

#3. Turmeric & Milk Face Mask

  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • milk

To a bowl, add 1 tbsp turmeric, and add enough milk to make a smooth paste. Apply to a clean face and neck leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off and pat dry.

Why it Works: The lactic acid in milk sloughs off dead skin cells, revealing softer, plumper skin, and, over time, getting rid of scars and dark spots.

Here’s a chunky monkey smoothie 🍹

Chocolate-Smoothie.jpgAfter the seemingly endless holiday buffet of donuts, coffee cake, and muffins, our bodies are yearning for a fresh start! Those treats were all tasty at the time, but there’s nothing better than starting the day with a healthy breakfast and an abundance of energy. When the cold, gray reality of a February morning sends you running for the pastries or a quick cup of coffee, don’t let your New Year’s Resolutions and positive intentions fall by the wayside. Instead, you can spend less than 5 minutes whipping up a nutritious meal that your entire family will devour. Loaded with the delicious flavors of chocolate, bananas, and peanut butter, this Chunky Monkey Protein Smoothie is a simple way to power you through the day!

Y’all, the kids and I are definitely back on the Smoothie Train! I got a new high-speed blender for Christmas that I have been secretly eyeing for years. Now that it’s officially mine, we have been enjoying a variety of smoothies for breakfasts and snacks on a daily basis over the last month. But let me tell you — this recipe is by far #1 on my family’s list.

Of course, at the start of the New Year, you see plenty of green smoothies, “detox” smoothies, and other wholesome concoctions splashed across the internet. But here’s a reality check: if I serve my boys (or husband) a class of thick, brownish-green sludge, there is no chance that they will actually ingest the beverage — regardless of how many vitamins it contains. Instead, if I want them to fuel up with fruit, protein, and healthy fats, I better make it all taste ah-mazing.

Mission accomplished! This Chunky Monkey Smoothie is so rich, so chocolatey, and so thick that the kids prefer to eat it with a spoon!
